Kids love to be in the kitchen. But can kids do more than set the table and do a little stirring of batter? You bet!

With a little help, kids can really get into the work of the kitchen and come out with good results. Maybe not always like Mom, but they are learning.

One good place to start is with a beginners cookbook. Now this cookbook I’m about to tell you is not really elementary as it has recipes for all age groups. Some are easier than others, but it does give suggestions on what children can do and what is more appropriate for adults to do.

If you have a young child on your Christmas list, here is a book he or she is sure to enjoy. “The Littlest Christmas Kitten” has lots of big, bold pictures of kittens and cats and animals. Of course the emphasis is on the Christ Child because it is His birthday. And birthdays are always special.

Have you noticed that cats are often featured on Christmas cards? There are even cat ornaments. This book gives the reason why there is a close association between cats and Christmas.

The first real snowfall of the season always leaves me looking out the window more than usual. I never tire of seeing it fall in soft mounds. Today it was a lazy snow but enough accummulation that I had to use the snow shovel.

What to cook for the first wintery-looking day? It sounds like a day for a good bowl of soup.

Here is one of my favorites and hope you will like it too:

Cheese-Broccoli Soup
